Gutter Repair

Gutter Repair That Addresses the Cause, Not Just the Symptom.

A leaking gutter is rarely just a leaking gutter. By the time water is visibly escaping the channel, something in the system has already failed. We diagnose gutter problems before we repair them. We fix what's actually wrong.

Common Gutter Failures in the Pacific Northwest

Hanger Failure and Sagging

Older gutter systems in western Washington were often installed with spike-and-ferrule hardware — a long spike driven through the gutter face into the fascia. Over time, the spike works loose as the fascia swells and dries through wet and dry cycles. The gutter sags, pitch is lost, and water pools in the low point rather than draining to the downspout. The repair is re-hanging with hidden hanger hardware driven into solid wood, not re-driving the original spike.

Joint Separation and Seam Leaks

Sectional gutter systems rely on caulked joints between sections. Pacific Northwest rainfall volume and temperature cycling degrades caulking faster than in dry climates. Separated joints allow water to run behind the fascia rather than through the downspout. Repair involves cleaning the joint, applying appropriate sealant, and addressing any underlying pitch issue that's concentrating water at the joint.

Downspout Blockage and Overflow

A downspout packed with compressed needle debris or organic mat will cause the gutter above it to back up and overflow regardless of how clean the channel is. Overflow at a corner or end cap is often misdiagnosed as a joint leak when the actual cause is a blocked downspout. We flush downspouts as part of every repair assessment.

End Cap Failure

End caps on sectional and seamless systems are sealed with caulk at installation. Heat expansion, UV exposure, and age cause caulk to crack and separate. End cap leaks often drip directly down the exterior wall and are sometimes attributed to other sources before the gutter is identified.

Ice Damage

Homes at higher elevations in the Pierce County foothills — Enumclaw, Buckley, Black Diamond — experience freeze events that can add significant weight to a gutter system. Ice in a partially blocked gutter can exceed the design load of standard residential hardware. Post-winter inspection in these areas is worthwhile.

Pitch Loss

Over time, gutters can shift out of their installed pitch as fasteners loosen and fascia moves. A gutter with inadequate slope allows water to pond, which accelerates corrosion, adds weight, and provides a standing-water environment for moss and organic growth. Pitch correction requires re-hanging the affected section, not just re-caulking joints.

Our Repair Process

01

Assessment First

We don't quote repairs by phone. Gutter problems need to be seen — the visible symptom is often not the primary cause. We inspect the full system during the estimate, not just the reported problem area.

02

Written Scope

Before any work begins, you receive a written description of what we found, what we recommend, and what it costs. If we find issues beyond the original complaint, we tell you before we act.

03

Correct the Cause

We repair the underlying failure, not just the surface symptom. If a sagging section is caused by failing fascia, we address the fascia. If a joint leak is caused by pitch loss, we correct the pitch.

04

Material Match

For partial replacements, we match aluminum gauge and color to the existing system wherever possible.

Seeing signs of gutter failure? We assess the full system during every estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Repair is appropriate when the system is fundamentally sound — good material condition, solid fascia, correct sizing — but has specific failure points. Replacement is appropriate when the material is corroded, the fascia is compromised along its length, the system is undersized for the roof, or the repair cost approaches replacement cost. We give you an honest assessment of both options.

  • Yes. Partial repairs and section replacements are common. We match gauge and color to the existing system.

  • Usually. Pulling gutters are most commonly caused by hanger failure or fascia deterioration. If the fascia is sound, re-hanging with new hidden hanger hardware is a straightforward repair. If the fascia has rotted, it needs to be replaced before the gutter can be re-secured. We assess fascia condition as part of every repair estimate.

  • Most repairs are completed in a few hours. Larger partial replacements or fascia work may take a full day. We confirm timeline at the estimate.

  • Yes. We stand behind our work. If a repair we performed fails within a reasonable period under normal conditions, we'll make it right.
