Fascia & Soffit Repair
Fascia and Soffit Repair for Gutter-Related Moisture Damage.
Gutters mount to the fascia. When gutters fail, the fascia is the first structural member to suffer. We assess fascia condition on every estimate and perform repair as part of gutter projects or as standalone service.
How Gutters Damage Fascia
Overflow
Gutters that overflow — whether from blockage, inadequate sizing, or failed pitch — direct water directly down the fascia face. In western Washington, where rain events are sustained and heavy, a single storm season of overflow can begin meaningful moisture intrusion.
Failed End Caps and Joint Leaks
Water escaping from end caps or failed joints drips onto the fascia surface at a fixed point, concentrating moisture damage in a specific location. The damage is often not visible from the ground until the wood has been compromised for some time.
Standing Water and Weight
Gutters with pitch problems hold standing water. The weight of sustained water accelerates fastener fatigue, pulling the gutter away from the fascia and creating a gap that allows water direct access to the wood behind it.
Ice
In the Pierce County foothills, freeze events add ice weight to gutters, which can pull fasteners through softened or already-compromised fascia wood.
Identifying Fascia and Soffit Damage
Fascia deterioration is often not visible until it has progressed significantly. We note any of these conditions during estimates and cleaning visits and report them to the homeowner.
Signs That Warrant Inspection
- Gutters pulling away from the roofline
- Paint peeling or bubbling on the fascia face
- Soft or spongy texture when the fascia is pressed
- Visible darkening or staining on the fascia surface below the gutter line
- Evidence of pest activity — carpenter ants and other wood-boring insects target moisture-compromised wood
Our Repair Process
Assessment
We inspect the extent of fascia damage before quoting. Damage is sometimes localized to a short section; other times it runs the full length of the affected roofline. We assess which boards are structurally compromised and which can be retained.
Removal
Gutters are removed from the affected section to allow full access to the fascia.
Replacement
Damaged boards are replaced with material appropriate to the climate and application. We use primed or composite material where appropriate for long-term moisture resistance.
Gutter Reinstallation
Gutters are remounted to the repaired fascia with correct hardware and pitch. If the original gutter system is in good condition, it can be rehung. If the gutter system contributed to the damage, we address the underlying cause.
Suspect fascia damage? We check it during every estimate — no extra charge.

-
We check during the estimate. Running a hand along the fascia while on the ladder, probing with a tool in suspect areas, and looking for paint failure are the primary indicators. We won't install new gutters on compromised fascia — the hardware won't hold and the gutter will fail prematurely.
-
Minor surface damage on structurally sound wood can sometimes be treated. Soft, compromised, or deeply deteriorated wood needs to be replaced. We make that determination on-site and explain our reasoning.
-
We use primed wood or composite materials depending on application, location, and customer preference. Composite materials offer better long-term moisture resistance in the Pacific Northwest climate and are worth the additional cost in high-exposure locations.
-
Not automatically — it depends on what we find. If we discover fascia damage during an installation estimate, we'll quote the repair as a separate line item. We won't include it without explaining what's needed and why.
-
Soffit — the material that closes the underside of the eave — can also be affected by prolonged moisture intrusion. Damaged soffit sections are replaced during the same visit as fascia repair where practical.
Don't Build on a Failed Foundation
Replacing gutters without addressing the fascia beneath them is building on a failed foundation. A-Team Gutters assesses both on every estimate.
